Southern Baptist Convention

Formed in 1845, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) organized for missions, ministry, evangelism, and benevolence. Composed of messengers from cooperating churches, the SBC is voluntarily organized into agencies, boards, and programs. Their mission is accomplished through associations and state conventions. The executive committee of the SBC acts as fiscal agent, and as the convention, when it is not in session.

SBC Mission Offerings

LOTTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING
of the Southern Baptist Convention

The annual Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is named after the Southern Baptist missionary, Lottie Moon, who served in China for 39 years (from 1873 - 1912). Each December this offering is received through Southern Baptist churches and sent to the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention where the funds represent nearly 50 percent of the IMB’s budget income. Four thousand two hundred missionaries in 127 countries are supported by the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

About 75 percent of the offering goes to fund missionary support:

  • missionary salaries
  • medical/dental
  • housing life
  • insurance
  • transportation
  • retirement
  • language study
  • college expenses for children

About 25 percent of the offering goes to fund missionary operating and capital needs.

ANNIE ARMSTRONG EASTER OFFERING
of the Southern Baptist Convention

In a tradition that dates back to 1895, Southern Baptists have supported a national offering for home missions. The offering is named the "Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for Home Missions" in honor of Miss Armstrong because of her leadership in focusing attention to the needs of Southern Baptist missionaries in the United States. Nearly $700 million has been given to the offering during its 100 year history.

Now, more than 5,000 North American missions personnel, most of whom are appointed and supported in cooperation with state Baptist conventions, receive help from the AAEO. The offering presently makes up 38 percent of the North American Mission Board’s annual budget, and all of the offering is committed to supporting missionaries serving on the field and to cooperative work with state conventions.

The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering assists in funding:

Mission personnel working in 50 states, Puerto Rico, America Samoa, the Virgin Islands, and Canada

  • Evangelism
  • Church starts
  • Church growth
  • Ministry to human needs
